Diary - Wale

The song I'm going to be reviewing is Diary by Wale.
Actually, Wale came to the basketball game today at Chicago State.
Yes, Wale is a rapper but his style is so unique. He interprets music and poetry together and it all makes sense. His music is not just "ooo baby, yes I like you, let's go party."
His lyrics literally have a meaning to it and the thing is, the meaning is obvious for those who aren't used to.
There's always puns and metaphors but I mean, first you have to get pass the obvious stuff to understand what exactly he's talking about.
In the song Diary, Wale refers to a girl he wants to talk to and who he has fallen for but the girl won't let her guards down because she's been through so much. She's trying to figure out what she should do and most of her thoughts go into her Diary.
Wale refers to it as 'Diary of a black girl," but I believe it can apply to any girl.
We all have the same emotions, more or less.
There is one part in the whole song where Wale stops his singing/rapping and begins to actually recite poetry.
Here are a few lines from that section:
Cars, nothing I drive can drive you out of this frame of mind,
For such an ugly picture and,
Money, nothing I buy can buy more time for your ears to tell your heart to listen to it,
Diamonds, a girl's best friend is what they say but believe me with the right allegiance shorty you gonna shine anyways,
and everyday that goes by is a couple more lines in her diary.

Okay, first off, this was just a pretty statement all together. He used material things to describe his love for this girl and to describe the girl.
Next, if you actually hear the song while he says this, he keeps up with the beat and pace so that it sounds as if the word he always leaves off on brings up a whole new subject and so on.
Wale is beast because he raps from the heart.
I love him!

  1. I agree. Good choice. Although he is becoming more popular, I feel like few people get that deep into his lyrics. Good music should make you think.
